The Hats Luncheon
This outstanding faith-based community outreach and engagement program engages the residents of this rural community to get educated about HIV/AIDS and get tested for the virus. At the annual Hat’s Luncheon, over two hundred residents of all ages come together to parade their favorite hat and raise awareness about the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS in their community.
Bamberg County, with only 13,000 residents, has the second highest rates of HIV and STI infection in the entire state of South Carolina. The program was mentored and initially funded through a grant from the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Council.
