‘ENGAGING A CITY’
Derek Spencer, Executive Director of The Jacques Initiative at the Institute of Human Virology (IHV) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore; Ellis Prince, Pastor of The Gallery Church in Baltimore; and Amy Lang, (former) Executive Director of Hopes Spring HIV Ministries, joined forces with thirteen (13) area churches, mosques and synagogues to mobilize a massive HIV-testing event in the city of Baltimore.
Their goal? To test over 1500 in one day. This model is all about partnership.
This city-wide testing model demonstrates how faith communities can work in partnership with businesses, schools, and service providers to become actively aware and engaged in community-led interventions that build on local assets and transform communities into stronger, more sustainable networks of support for persons living with HIV/AIDS(PLWHA) or other chronic illnesses.
